POSITION SUMMARY: Performs applied techniques for various chemical, microscopic, immunologic and/or microbiological tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Works with a focus in a specialty areas of the Laboratory, such as Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Serology an/or Microbiology.# Receives and/or obtains specimens for laboratory analysis. Uses considerable judgment in making decisions requiring the interpretation and application of guidelines with considerable latitude to specific work situations.# Records laboratory test results.# Performs training activities and special projects.### # EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION A Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology is required along with American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification as a Medical Technologist or ASCP Categorical Certification specific for laboratory section employed in (H, C, M, BB) or eligible required.### EXPERIENCE At least one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience is preferred.# Phlebotomy experience is preferred.# COMPETENCIES Must be knowledgeable in laboratory automation and information systems.# Must have and maintain a current and valid driver#s license for travel between ECHN sites.##### ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITES: Disclaimer: Job descriptions are not intended, nor should they be construed to be, exhaustive lists of all responsibilities, skills, efforts or working conditions associated with the job.# They are intended to be accurate reflections of the principal duties and responsibilities of this position.# These responsibilities and competencies listed below may change from time to time. # # ######### Job-Specific Competency 1.##### Demonstrates efficient operation and knowledge of basic instrument theory of operation and function of components.# 2.##### Troubleshoots instruments when necessary, in accordance with instrument specific manuals. Takes responsibility for maintenance and troubleshooting functions and performs full assessment of problems as they arise. 3.##### Adheres to turn-around-time standards for the Laboratory. 4.##### Assumes responsibility for instrument or# pipette calibration functions. 5.##### Assists in coordinating proficiency testing results. 6.##### Performs section back-up procedures in accordance with the specific instrument. 7.##### Follows department policy and procedures for Quality Control and takes action as necessary when outliers exist. Assists with monitoring of Quality Control over time. 8.##### Exhibits technical expertise by assessing results are accurate with no technical data amends that would affect patient care.# Uses critical thinking skills when assessing patient results and makes good sound judgment before releasing results. 9.##### Makes calls promptly and documents calls to ensure test results are communicated to the appropriate health care provider. 10.# Takes inventory and orders supplies as needed. 11.# Performs temperature and eyewash checks and reviews records as needed. 12.# Processes specimens efficiently to generate test results within the established TAT.### 13.# Assists in coordination of training employees in their section of expertise. 14.# Collects all specimens by various phlebotomy methods for all age groups within the institution in an efficient and appropriate manner.# Follows designated collection procedure and specimen requirements. 15.# Assists and supports goal of working towards full compliance with accreditation standards. 16.# Assists with coordinating of Quality Assurance activities. # #
